Pastor Steven R. Dodd is an innovative pastoral leader called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the beliefs of the evangelical Christian faith. As an ordained Assemblies of God minister, his primary focus is maintaining the worship of God and to inspire in all persons a love for Christ, a passion for righteousness, and a consciousness of their duties to God and their fellow human beings. His pledge is to “do justice, love mercy and walk humbly before God” (Micah 3:8). Demonstrating His Spirit through worship, witnessing, and ministering to the needs of the people of the church and the global community.
Pastor Dodd did not always see himself as the Man of God he is today. In fact, his call into pastoral ministry almost never happened. Having suffered sexual abuse as a child at the hands of a Christian pastor, he distanced himself from the church entirely and spent twenty-six years of his life running from God. “That was a lot for a 10-year old boy to deal with. I’m not sure if it was my way of suppressing it or just trying to forget. But one thing I knew, my God had let me down and I didn’t want anything to do with Him or the church ever again” says Pastor Dodd.
“I allowed that ordeal to imprison me and use it as a means of hurting those around me. It flowed into every aspect of my life; it was a cancer” he explains. Often describing his experience as a modern day Saul before his conversion to Paul. Pastor Dodd explains, “Just like Paul, as God worked in my life, and I allowed Him to work through me; my life has transformed from being one of the fiercest adversaries of the Lord, into one of His most willing servants. He has brought me through a terrible ordeal of abuse, where I felt worthless and even angry with God, to now having the great privilege and honor of preaching the Gospel.”
Pastor Dodd now embraces his calling as a pastoral leader. But he’s very honest about what that means for anyone in that role. “I’m in the foot washing business,” he says. “To be a leader, you have to serve others. And if you want to serve, it begins with total surrender. And by surrendering, you must die to yourself, pick up your cross and follow the path of Christ daily.”
Born in Delano, California, Pastor Dodd moved to Medford, Oregon when he was 6-years old and lived there until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1988. During his military career he held many diverse high-level positions. These included 11-years Aircrew Life Support/Search and Rescue Instructor, 2-years Wing Protocol, 7-years General Officer Enlisted Aide serving two- separate 4-Star Generals, and 3-years Superintendent of the Base Air Force Honor Guard. While on active duty he was recognized with such honors as Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year, the 2008 Program Manager of the Year for the Entire Air Force, and as a Certified Executive Chef he competed and won a Gold Medal in the 2002 US Army Quartermaster Culinary Arts Olympic Competition. Additionally, his drive and integrity afforded him the ability to be hand-selected as a Presidential Escort to both President Bill Clinton and President Gerald Ford. One interesting note regarding Pastor Dodd’s time in service is that in 2001, Pastor Dodd found himself ground-zero at the Pentagon while narrowly escaping the traumatic events of September 11, 2001. After 21-years of faithful service, Pastor Dodd retired from the Air Force in 2010.
Following his military service, Pastor Dodd attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While there, he was honored with being named the 2011 ‘Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.’ Additionally, he graduated at the top of his graduating class with Summa Cum Laude honors (3.98 GPA). He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Ministry – Bible and Theology Major; of which he completed this intensive 5-year Bachelor of Arts degree program in just 18-months! Currently he is working towards his Masters of Divinity – Pastoral Leadership at Olivet Bible University in Bourbonnais, Illinois and plans to continue his education until he achieves his Doctorate in Ministry.
Amidst the pulls of ministry and creative pursuits, it is the love of his family that keeps Pastor Dodd grounded. Married to the former Suzanne Herdoiza of Cape Coral, Florida, they are the proud parents of 6-children (Kara, Tori, Sarah, Anyah, Brie and their only boy… Christian). How Pastor Dodd came to know the Lord is a remarkable story in itself. Pastor Dodd invites you to read his testimony on this blog to see just how God chose to use Suzanne as His anointed messenger to begin his ministry. It is the story of God’s redeeming power and how God’s presence in your life is all the qualifications you need to fulfill your life’s purpose. For everyone has a calling on their life. And in the end, as Pastor Dodd likes to say, “It’s not about the masses that you touch, it’s about Building HIS Kingdom One Soul at a Time…”
